‘Trans’ is a Latin noun or prefix, meaning ‘across’, or ‘beyond’. Designed for a translator and writer for the arts, these cards reflect the process of the vocation and personality of their owner. Published articles by the writer were taken and turned into handmade paper, imbuing the essence of his craft into his identity. Contact details were then hand-printed onto each individual card using a transfer marker. Just as a translator’s role is that of bridging language boundaries, this process of transference from one medium to another is reiterated in how each card is made. Every card is handmade, and therefore beautifully idiosyncratic.

“When a child is a child, it walked with arms hanging, wanted the stream to be a river and this puddle a sea.”

These 2 images are not a didactic lecture on social pressures faced by the children of today but a re-interpretation of common portraiture.

Looking into their eyes, you get a sense of your own life being reflected back. You are looking into a pool of your past, your now and your future. Awareness. Self-portrait.

Designed in collaboration with artist Lim Tzay Chuen and writer Ray Langenbach, ‘A Work’ was produced to coincide with Lim’s art installation of the same name.

Inspired by Lim’s installation ‘A Work’, which consist of an automatic glass sliding door which leads one to exit the gallery space as well as Langenbach’s essay ‘Hidden Things’, each page is divided into six equal sections, to accommodate six parts of the essay. Part one of the essay occupies the top section of every page, while part two occupies the second section and so on. The text layout design thus require the reader to constantly turn the pages and look for the seemingly ‘hidden text’, navigating back and forth to read the entire essay.

The dotted line that divides the six sections of the inside pages is repeated on the cover. Together with an unbroken line, they represent the minimal nature of ‘A Work’: the opaqueness of the gallery wall and the transparency of the glass sliding door.

‘I Want The Title Of This Book To Be _’ is a book which showcases H55′s early works.

The concept of interaction in print, chance, accidental beauty, authorship, design ownership, and the ‘absoluteness’ of meaning, were personal ideas which have been prevalent in H55′s approach and we wanted them to be represented through the cover.

H55′s response was to use a sticker book jacket consisting of die-cut removable letters ‘I WANT THE TITLE OF THIS BOOK TO BE’, which allows the title and final cover design to be completed by the reader. Besides representing H55′s personal ideas, the book cover questions and redefines the relationship between author and reader, and facilitated the collection of many unlikely titles for their publication.
